The Baltic Sea to get safer

The Polish territorial waters of the Baltic Sea, one of the world's busiest shipping areas, will get a system to improve safety and efficiency in vessel navigation and maritime traffic services

The Polish Maritime Office, Urzad Morski Gdynia, is relying on Indra technology for its new national maritime control system. The solution, developed jointly by Indra and Alcatel-Lucent, will provide an early warning in the event of security or environmental threats, both in Polish waters and in its Baltic ports, which handle over 80 million tons of cargo annually. The application will also integrate all support functions, including a crisis management center focused on rescue operations.

The new system will improve efficiency in the collection and exchange of information between maritime security forces. It will also provide an effective guarantee against unwanted incidents, such as collisions between vessels, that can lead to environmental disasters, speeding up analysis of the area and simplifying the decision-making process.

Indra will implement its maritime platform solutions, including radar equipment and software. This platform forms the heart of the project, allowing the integration of all remote sensors to provide the authorities with a real-time picture of the shipping situation and potential risks. In addition, a turnkey solution will be designed for the Maritime Offices of Gdynia, Szczezin and Slupsk, that will also provide a unified vision of shipping traffic along the entire coast of Poland, and will allow information to be exchanged with other applications of various Polish authorities.

To meet the expectations of the project, the solution delivered by Indra will rely on the company's extensive experience in port traffic management systems and coastal and maritime surveillance systems, having received extremely positive references for its systems in Portugal, Morocco, Spain, Latvia, Romania and Hong Kong.
