Indra designs the Healthcare of tomorrow

The company is leading the project "FutureClinic", which aims to carry out research and development into new technologies, in order to introduce personalized genomic medicine into the healthcare system. Indra is renewing its commitment to Healthcare 2.0, lending its solutions in support of a proposal that will improve the quality of care and will facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies such as cancer and genetic diseases

Indra's commitment to digital healthcare is placed at the disposal of this innovative project, which is expected to contribute advances in genomic medicine, providing efficiency and lower costs compared with existing health systems. The resulting solution will be a major shift in our understanding of current healthcare systems, as it has the necessary mechanisms to facilitate the introduction of personalized medicine in the provision of care, both in terms of prevention and in the identification of diagnoses and more effective treatment. "FutureClinic" will also provide increased efficiency and sustainability in the healthcare system over the medium and long term, with decreased costs in care and pharmaceuticals, as well as an improvement in the system's proactivity, boosting the capacity of alternative treatments and therapies.

To achieve this, the project relies on a number of action lines, such as research into new algorithms and processing systems for genomic information, enabling better performance and speed in the analysis and, consequently, in the treatment of diseases. It will study the integration of genomic information with current healthcare systems and the way the data is represented to medical professionals, so that solutions may be developed that allow patients' genomes and disease genomes to be incorporated into clinical analyses. It also envisions the creation of a Strategic Bioinformatics Office.

"FutureClinic" will test the potential incorporation of genomic data into the healthcare system through two real cases with clinical groups from the Valencian Community. The concepts that have been reached will be applied by developing an integrated system that will facilitate the use of patients' genomic data within the healthcare system, in order to improve the diagnosis and prognosis of diseases. After the research phase, the results will enter a phase of development, prototyping and subsequent marketing. A website will also be created to help publicize the project's development.

New clinical setting

The spectacular recent progress made in sequencing techniques will help bring about the advent of a genomic medicine that will allow the accumulation of enough knowledge to make personalized treatment decisions. "FutureClinic" is a strong commitment to this new clinical setting, as it will be especially important in the implementation of new diagnostic methods and treatment protocols, as well as in the development of patient-oriented pharmaceuticals.

This decisive project is led by Indra along with Bull Spain, and is promoted by the Government of Valencia through the Regional Health Ministry, in a consortium that includes the Polytechnic University of Valencia through the OPI (Public Research Organization), Valencian companies GEM BioSoft, the Institute for Genomic Medicine (Imegen), iProcuratio Consultores and VeraTech for Health SL; as well as other research bodies such as the Information Technology Institute (ITI), the Foundation for the Promotion of Healthcare and Biomedical Research in the Valencian Community (FISABIO), the Prince Felipe Research Center (CIPF), the Software Production Methods Research Center (PROS) and the Institute for Molecular Imaging Instrumentation (I3M).
